Department Overview

2025-2026 PAD Brochure/Overview

North Central High School is proud to offer a variety of performing arts classes, including a comprehensive student driven curriculum, serving over one-third of the student body. Curricular offerings include 8 bands (concert, jazz, marching band, and basketball band), 10 choirs (concert, show, chamber, and gospel), 4 string orchestras, a handbell ensemble, group piano classes (two semesters), theatre classes (two semesters), and Repertory Theatre class. Additionally, we offer classes in technical theater, scene design, IB music, and AP music theory. Ten highly trained and dedicated educators provide opportunities for students to develop and explore their creative and artistic talent in many areas of music and theatre. Students also have the opportunity for a wide variety of learning experiences through singing, moving, composing, and acting. Our program provides a unique avenue to the imaginative and affective aspects of life and their contribution to our cultural heritage.

Performing Arts is one of the most effective ways to hone communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. Research indicates that making music engages almost 90% of brain capacity; there is no comparable activity that a child can engage in that activates nearly the entire cerebral cortex. Rehearsing and performing in the arts gives students a competitive edge.
